TOP O1O ....... no. O5

Tue Jun 2, 2009, 5:56 AM
  • Mood: dA Love
  • Watching: Battlestar Galactica D:
  • Eating: SHRIMP SCAMPI SPINACH SPAGETTI : ) SERIOUSLY~
  • Drinking: l'eau
TOPO1O Disney Movies

1O. Fantasia - I had seizures when I watched it (LOL I'm KEEDING), no but it was very colorful (:
O9. the Nightmare Before Christmas - Scarred me as a child but since I love Christmas... and Hallowe'en.. Why not? asks Hilary Duff~
O8. Hercules - the music, the hilarious inaccurate historical backgrounds, and James Wood (: Probably the reason why I love this movie
O7. Mulan - See? I'm not being racist at all !!! My friends would probably think that I'd choose Mulan, seeing as I'm some kind of "foreign dumpling" but it's number SEVEN !!! Be a man !!
O6. Snow White - A young girl becomes a maid for seven old pedophi- oops, I mean men... I mean dwarves.. Ugh this is getting weirder and weirder.. switch Mulan and Snow White then, I'm too lazy to do it.
O5. Beauty and the Beast - because you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, or a Beast, no less
O4. The Little Mermaid - I waaaaannna beeeeeee where the peopleeeeee areeee~~ If you get surgery (chop your fins) you'll get a man !! I LOVE DISNEY MORALS !!
O3. Aladdin - Arabian Niiiiiiights ~ and Robin Williams, I suppose (: and the monkey
O2. Peter Pan - Because I BELIEVE IN FAIRIES !!!! you can flllllllly~~~~

..and finally, NUMBER ONE...
✩O1✩
Alice and Wonderland - I've always liked this movie for its mysteriously odd way of toying with children's minds and its lavish but subtle ode to drugs... (: Basically a drug trip, especially when the Mad Hatter and March Hare scenes start. You think the MOVIE is weird? You should read the book.. I basically DIED when I read it (thank God for Phoenix Down)

HONORABLE MENTION
Cinderella, if you want a good slave movie (:

Sleeping Beauty, who had a manly voice...

and Lion King... which I should've put on the list... you know what just OMIT Snow White completely, she doesn't deserve to be up there, seriously, I never really liked her at all.. she's such a dumbass anyways who should've like, fallen off a cliff honestly, I don't know why she's there, lol, omit her please.. forever.

~L

(sorry if you like Snow White !! Did you know she's supposed to be Oriental because like, no one has black hair in the world except for orientals? My hair isn't black and I'm oriental so I guess it's just Disney being racist again.. and why the hellw ould an oriental live in like some random ass forest at the time? Are we meant to be maids forever? Yeah, I really don't like Snow White, sorry again !!)

W00t, this one is leaving me with alot to say about. I agree that number 1 SHOULD be Alice in Wonderland, even if IMO the plot just felt shorter than OTHER Disney movies, but I have to say, Pinocchio is a good one too. Your insight on the Little Mermaid had me laughing.

About the women of the East, do you think even the Chinese and/or Koreans consider this? From what I saw of several Japanese media and studied in Japanese history (and I try studying the history of EVERY part of the world), the ideal Japanese wife used to be one of the most extreme forms of the maid/housewife, from being able to clean up an entire house to knowing EXACTLY what to do as a mother, I guess referred to as "Yamato Nadeshiko ([link])". Maybe Disney may have based them off of THIS stereotype but what people should learn is that ALL cultures are guilty of gender roles at one time or another. But trust me, NONE of this is MY personal opinion, it's only based on what I researched and my honest opinion is is that ANYBODY can do whatever they want to when they feel like it and nowadays women are working and going to college too, heck even some men stay home and watch the children! Lol xD

Oh my gosh, yeah I forgot Pinocchio >"< That scared me when I was young, especially the DONKEY parts ;;; but YES, while I tend to go off on Disney about Mulan (and even Pochahontas, who I failed to include as well), I forget that these are CHILDREN movies, and stereotypes, however terrible they are, really help to identify different cultures xD

Everyone thinks I'm good at math because I'm asian, but honestly, math is not for me. I don' blame DIsney for doing all that ANCESTRAL, HONOR, TEA CEREMONY-ish things for Mulan because I guess it DOES signify Chinese Culture, and the movie WAS based on a time where things like that were very typical soooooooo lol

But now that I'm older, it makes me laugh about how ridiculously ADULT Disney movies are, like the Little Mermaid surgery and Wonderland drug trips ==;;

Yeah it creepy and I never understood why it happend until I watched it again several years later. Pocahontus was a historical mess and WAS flooded with stereotypes, which is ironic that Europeans completely forgot about how much of nature worshippers THEY were themselves. It sucks when stereotypes are your only way to identify another differently, but I guess I wonder how would I identify Germany and Great Britain differently without the differences of thier language and cultural aspects but that's the thing, cultures only get different upon scattering about the world and as you see one is derived from another.

That's retarded that people think you'd be good at math, math isn't all that great as people say, and everytime I had a math lecture, I was always wondering off into history and how languages were made! xDDD I'm not too sure what others think of me, and I wonder if they even see me for what ethnicity I am, but it's ironic how I am more stereotyped by my OWN ethnic people than others. @_@ No one knows for sure where the original story of Mulan was originally set, but maybe the point was to show that it wasn't important. It is true as you say tho, I guess everyone has a time period where many aspects of their culture is born or otherwise shown most in.

Yes, watching Disney movies now I laugh with all my family members, heck we even point out stupid and odd animation mistakes too.

Yeah, me too, I never understood the donkey thing ==;; And it's not just math !! LOL It's everything else, like Karate or Martial Arts and that kind of stuff ==;; I didn't think it was possible for civilization to become so dumb until someone asked me if I knew how to do a karate chop >_> I think.. it makes me angry that they assume things more than what the assumption is (confused myself...) ~ I hope you understand, LOL T^T

But YEAH your own ethnic people stereotype you !? That's never happened to me before LOL but I HATE orientals in my school who TRY to be more asian when they've grown up around white people... it's like we're some kind of foreign bonbon ==;; i hate it, LOL

Oh trust me, there were SEVERAL people I have met that have made me think humanity in itself was retarded. Like this one creepy guy who's also a fanboy in denial. -__-;;

Well, those are the same kind of people who did that to me, the ones obsessed with their ethnic identity, and telling me I should be one of them but when I said no, they made it clear with ALL the other people like label me as a traitor to my own kind. But then I thought, who I am was not important and whosoever respects me I respect them, and if they don't respect me, well, it's something THEY gotta learn...

It made me mad tho, I commonly go by a nick-name, but when substitue teachers read my REAL name out loud in several classes, everyone in the classes laughed at how strange sounding THEY thought it was. I don't blame my teachers but honestly, it's like I have to change my whole name altogether just so they'd never find out. >_>

Really? My best friend had to do that too ==;; her name is "Yunyoung" and everyone called her "Yin Yang" because everyone knew what that symbol was and for some reason NO ONE could pronounce her name ==;; so she had to tell everyone to call her KIM which was her last name.. even our TEACHER called her that ==;; it was SO DUMB.. but I suppose you can't really do anything about ignorance except let it be and laugh it off~

What's your ethnicity, btw? Because the way you're speaking reminds me of one of my friends lol it'd be really funny if you were him the entire time >"""< Nick names can be fun, but I hate how some ppl have to resort to them just because people can't prnounce names... I KNOW it's not their fault, bec. maybe they're not used to it, but the people who laugh are the immature idiots who don't respect cultures and it makes me so mad ==;; like, the name CHARLIE in my culture is weird.. but like, people are so stupid they see a korean girl and refer to her as chinese ==;; it's difficult being asian bec. you're organized into ONE CLASS and for some reason NO ONE can tell us apart >n< lol, that's my rant~

Just because the consonants are the same, so they DON'T even care if the vowels are different? If I don't know how to pronounce a word or name, I just bite my tongue until someone tells me how to say it correctly, but I can assure you I learn pretty dang fast, like the first time I hear.

Well I'm of Mexican descent, but I have to say I'm not even 100% of that either, ironically I'm more so of it tho than my cousins are (mainly because their parents mix with whites). My mother and her sister are the only ones who married another Mexican-American man. But I grew up in a small town and if you have seen any, most of the are rural in nature, so we can get some pretty ignorant people there. I dunno, I don't even live close to Canada, but one day I plan to move up north eventually. But hey tho, we're grouped into one class also "Hispanic", which means anybody that even HAS a remote connection to the Spaniards (or would otherwise be thought to speak Spanish) is automatically referred to as such, no matter WHAT country you came from like you can be from Peru but be called Mexican, but than I see people from Spain be called "White" JUST because they appear that way. I'm sorry but that just isn't fair whatsoever. Well that's my fairshare of ranting anyway. >_>

no it's alright xD It's VERY SIMILAR to orientals, if you think of it logically~ my weirdo white friends used to ask other people to guess what kind of asian I was and you don't know HOW MANY TIMES they'd guess wrong and just say "oh well they're all the same" because they're NOT >__<;; I have a friend who's from Argentina and everyone's always saying he's from Spain and they make fun of him but like, apparently there are different kinds of dialect in Spanish - well not dialect, per se, but like, a certain way that they speak that you can tell them apart xD I always thought that was kind of cool (: AND if you go to CANADA you should visit Vancouver, because it's BEAUTIFUL THERE with the mountains and all that... such FRESH AIR.. I live in the city so pollution and garbage everywhere haha~

And I do the exact same thing as you if I can't pronounce a name... I don't make any attempt because I find it to be a bit insulting if I tried >w< Plus I wouldn't want the same done to me !!

Wow, may as well make a game called "Guess the Asian!" O_O;;, the languages are VERY different for one, the geographic locations are VERY different, the only thing they have in common is just that China's neighbors all borrowed a little bit of it's culture and writing to a certain extent but for the most part, they all developed on their own unique cultures. It's just like how other European countries derived THEIR culture and writing from the Greek and Roman ones. I suppose the most different Spanish dialects tho, is ironically the one spoken in Spain, they lisp their S's, so instead of pronouncing an S as you would like in English, the Spaniards (and ONLY the Spaniards), say it with with a "th" sound instead. (Legend/rumour has it that a certain Spanish prince had a speech problem and he was laughed at for it, so the king made it a law to speak with a lisp or he'd cut their toungues off!) >_<. Some words are different too tho, like my grandmother was telling me in Mexico they call the color brown is said as "Cafe", but Spaniards say "Marron" instead. Vancouver is actually not too far from where I wanna go! I heard the coming Winter Olympics will take their also! (:

Exactly how I felt, it just seemed disrespectful, and sometimes it sounds like as if you really ARE being mocked. The only time I ever say something in an English way is only when I know another language borrows an English word, like Spanish say Soccer as Futbol, which obviously is trying to say "Football", so I just call it that, or if the word is easily translatable, I just say it in English, like the Rio Grande is one of the longest in the US, but sometimes I just call it "The Grand River" even if I know how to pronounce it anyway.
